Still Kicking Statement

eden star available for pre-order black

On behalf of everyone at Flix, I would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you for your pledges, comments, and support. It has been amazing (and humbling!) for us to hear that you are as excited about the game as we are, and want to play it as soon as possible. We have read every comment and have taken all that you have said onboard.

So, due to the feedback and slow traction on Kickstarter we have listened to your feedback and decided that today we are cutting our Kickstarter short. We are proudly announcing that no matter what happens, we will create Eden Star, and you can get your hands on an updated version of the Pre-Alpha Combat Tech Demo via the Eden Star website with every pre-order of the game. This allows us to make builds of the game available at the earliest opportunity and at the lowest price point for early backers, but not compromise on the quality that we at Flix forever aspire to deliver.

Let’s keep it simple! Any early pre-orders of the project will be able to be purchased at the discounted price of $15, and will receive access to the very first playable Eden Star Alpha build and all updates thereafter. All backers will also receive the Eden Star Pre-Alpha (created in UE3. ETA: December 2013), if you would like to pledge more, then you can!

Backers can now pledge via our Humble widget which accepts payment via Paypal, Amazon Payments and Google Wallet.

We also plan to add further tiers at a later date for those who want them, but for now, the focus will be on developing the core aspects of the game, and as before, we want your input to create it. All proceeds will go towards development, and we anticipate being able to release regular updates from Alpha onwards. We will also be keeping you all up-to-date with the latest developments through regular updates and weekly video sit-reps.

We want to be as transparent as possible, and with this in mind we have broken down the project to allow us to deliver a working version of the game within a shorter timeframe, but as polished as possible.

Ultimately, we are so passionate about making Eden Star, no matter what happens it will be completed! We are self-funded and will continue to make what we believe could be something special and fun to play. The more funding we receive, the more of the full scope of the game we can create – so please spread the word!

Once again, thank you for your support and please remember that under Kickstarter’s terms and conditions you will not be charged for any pledges made on the cancelled kickstarter!

Also, we’d like to announce that tomorrow, we will be showing the demo at Minecon in Florida! If you happen to be at the event, we’d love to see you there and give you a chance to play our new, improved demo!

Kickstarter Update #8: Minerals & Tunneling

Click here for the full update on Kickstarter

For our last update of the week, here’s a short video about minerals and destructible environment.

Making use of the resources around you is critical to your survival on Pharus 7. Supply drops from the Eden Star are rare, so Pioneers are expected to manufacture their own equipment and base structures once they reach the surface.

To do this, the Pioneer must explore their immediate environment and seek out useful minerals. The MATA-Tool makes for a powerful mining tool as well as a formidable weapon, and makes short work of breaking down minerals, which the Pioneer can then absorb and store in their MATA-Tool.

Nvidia’s new Apex technology opens up new possibilities, giving us the ability to simulate the destruction in even more detailed and realistic ways while increasing the efficiency of the process in-game.

As you can see in the video, there is only one type of mineral present in the Tech Demo, but in the actual game we plan to have multiple minerals with different properties and uses. Refined minerals may have different strengths, mass, and varied appearance. Certain objects that you can build will require specific minerals, which might mean you have to venture far beyond the relative safety of your base and clear areas of hostiles before you can extract these precious minerals.

If you’d rather upgrade your equipment than use minerals to build, your Eden Kit can Beam them to the Eden Star and give you credits in return.

Your MATA-Tool is capable of a variety of offensive and defensive abilities, but the most powerful of them use your mineral reserves directly, giving you added incentive to keep yourself stocked up!

Please leave your comments here, and on our forum. Also check out Eden Star on FacebookTwitterIndiedb and Steam Greenlight and remember to spread the word!

Thanks again! We’ll be back next week with more reveals!

Kickstarter Update #4: Core Combat Explained

For the whole update on Kickstarter, go here!

Hello again!

Tonight we’re focusing on violence.

Eden Star gives you the power to destroy things in all manner of creative and brutal ways, using Eden Star’s signature weapon, the remote manipulation device, also known as the ‘MATA-tool’.

Various makes and types of MATA-Tool exist in the Eden Star Universe, created by different Corporations, and come standard issue for all elite Citadel Nations Pioneers. Because each MATA-Tool contains a minute shard of Teslinium to amplify its power, this makes each Pioneer an incredibly important and deadly asset, and economics demands they be deployed either individually or in small fire teams.

The MATA-Tool enables a single Pioneer to maintain combat superiority in battle with many foes. By using basic abilities such as the concussive blast and grab/throw for crowd control, multiple enemies can be kept at bay whilst priority targets take focus for serious damage.

As a Pioneer reigns down consecutive attacks on an enemy the MATA-Tool is able to learn key weaknesses of the target, absorbing power and enabling the Pioneer to leverage Teslinium fuelled abilities such as the powerful sustained blast and crush.

The MATA-Tool is designed to be modular and be easily adapted to add or change many functions, including projectiles such as explosive and implosive upgrades, personal shields, underslung railguns, and more.

In the Pre-Alpha Combat Demo, we are especially proud of the smash mechanic (although currently in its basic form). With the final smash mechanic delivered as an option for core combat, we aim to give the player a sensation of power and gesture controlled movement that works well in combination with destructible environments and deformable enemies.
