Minecon Orlando 2013

Hey!

John here, feeling the burn after an amazing week at the awesome Minecon 2013…

So, how did Eden Star end up at Minecon 2013? We were invited to attend the very first Minecon Indies showcase, where the guys and girls who organise the con (with a little help from Notch and the Mojang crew…) pick some of the best up-and-coming indie teams to share their warez in the same vein to how Minecraft was started, sharing with the community at an early stage of development. The only rules are that there needs to be something playable and something to pre-order or buy on the weekend of the con from each team.

So Minecon itself was an incredible experience, one of the most welcoming shows we’ve been to this year so far (previous shows this year have included GDC Europe, Casual Connect, Eurogamer Expo and more). The atmosphere is great and the vibe from meeting the fans and other indies is electric. The latest updates to the ES tech demo went down really well and people jumped into the tutorial with ease thanks to some of the latest HUD changes. In addition to the HUD updates, this was the first show where we let the public loose with a few more buildable items including Turrets (which you can watch here). With the new features being freshly rolled out and updated by our resident genius (Tech Master; Lord Snookes), literally half way through the first day, we threw the new features out to the public, hot off the test-bed and it worked like a charm…

No tutorial meant that we showed people as they were playing how to access and then deploy them and after no time at all, we saw people building as many turrets as they could whilst spamming the enemy waves in an attempt to recreate the famous battle scene from the last Matrix film. They succeeded, with bullets flying and destruction reigning down. We hope guys and girls enjoyed it as people were often playing for more than 30-45mins at a time – we may need to put a time limit or end goal in for future shows so that others get a go.

A big thanks to all who came to play and who also pre-ordered the game, please comment if you met either Lee or John at the event and let us know what you thought of the Demo!

Thanks again for the support!

J

Casual Connect Kiev

Hi everyone,

What a crazy few weeks it has been for Flix. This past weekend we have been at Minecon out in Florida, but we’ll have a full update dedicated that later this week.  In this particular update we are going to concentrate on our time in the incredible Ukrainian city of Kiev.

We were fortunate enough to be invited to Casual Connect as part of the Indie Showcase. It was an absolute privilege to be included alongside such talented indie developers. A special thanks goes to our ever Humble but supremely talented Francesco Maisto, the man behind the hideously addictive and elegantly beautiful puzzle game QUAD.

Another special mention Goes to Alex and Andrey from Rushlab. They showed us their current iPad based project Universe, which was absolutely incredible and will be coming to Kickstarter very soon. The game felt like a combination of the board game Eclipse and EVE online and looked simply stunning. So please keep an eye out.

A big thank you has to go to the people of Kiev, not only for their valuable feedback but also the warm welcome. Over the two days hundreds of people got hands on with Eden Star and the feedback was generally positive from both devs and conference goers alike. It was interesting seeing the game being played by a more casual audience and to see how well the game translated for non-English speaking gamers.

On a final note the apartment block we stayed in was awesome. It was a former soviet tower block that was reminiscent of a film set if they made a Half Life 2 movie. The last thanks has to go to the most important people we met on our trip, our two new Lebanese friends who served us the world’s greatest falafel at 4 in the morning, when everywhere else in Kiev was closed.

Stay tuned for more news.

Still Kicking Statement

eden star available for pre-order black

On behalf of everyone at Flix, I would like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you for your pledges, comments, and support. It has been amazing (and humbling!) for us to hear that you are as excited about the game as we are, and want to play it as soon as possible. We have read every comment and have taken all that you have said onboard.

So, due to the feedback and slow traction on Kickstarter we have listened to your feedback and decided that today we are cutting our Kickstarter short. We are proudly announcing that no matter what happens, we will create Eden Star, and you can get your hands on an updated version of the Pre-Alpha Combat Tech Demo via the Eden Star website with every pre-order of the game. This allows us to make builds of the game available at the earliest opportunity and at the lowest price point for early backers, but not compromise on the quality that we at Flix forever aspire to deliver.

Let’s keep it simple! Any early pre-orders of the project will be able to be purchased at the discounted price of $15, and will receive access to the very first playable Eden Star Alpha build and all updates thereafter. All backers will also receive the Eden Star Pre-Alpha (created in UE3. ETA: December 2013), if you would like to pledge more, then you can!

Backers can now pledge via our Humble widget which accepts payment via Paypal, Amazon Payments and Google Wallet.

We also plan to add further tiers at a later date for those who want them, but for now, the focus will be on developing the core aspects of the game, and as before, we want your input to create it. All proceeds will go towards development, and we anticipate being able to release regular updates from Alpha onwards. We will also be keeping you all up-to-date with the latest developments through regular updates and weekly video sit-reps.

We want to be as transparent as possible, and with this in mind we have broken down the project to allow us to deliver a working version of the game within a shorter timeframe, but as polished as possible.

Ultimately, we are so passionate about making Eden Star, no matter what happens it will be completed! We are self-funded and will continue to make what we believe could be something special and fun to play. The more funding we receive, the more of the full scope of the game we can create – so please spread the word!

Once again, thank you for your support and please remember that under Kickstarter’s terms and conditions you will not be charged for any pledges made on the cancelled kickstarter!

Also, we’d like to announce that tomorrow, we will be showing the demo at Minecon in Florida! If you happen to be at the event, we’d love to see you there and give you a chance to play our new, improved demo!
